CCI Eye Candy
CCI-EYE CANDY OF THE INDUSTRY
Chevron Commercial since its origin in 1987 has prided itself on Workmanshipand Originality. Actually the “EYE CANDY” of the Towing Industry just kept evolving from marker lightsand interior buzzers that when requested are wired into the PTO to remind thedriver the PTO is engaged. Painting from flames to the “Lava Light LookingPaint Schemes” of many colors started the push to Clear Coat a multitude ofpaint designs giving that Slick Eye Pop attention getter.
The inspiration for safety inspired CCI to raise the bar by upscale lighting patterns and designs that would protect drivers while performing a service.
In the beginning we even removed dash boards and stripped down the cabs to bare metal and refurbished the cab to have not just a new look, but a Custom Contemporary look that Truck Manufactures would not offer. Wreckers were always the most time consuming due to the wrecker body offering a playground of so many different areas where custom change could even fool the previous owner to the point he could not recognize that was his old truck!
In early 2000-2003 CCI went from “EYE CANDY” becoming MOREthen just esthetics. The industry was moving towards larger GVWR chassis alongwith chassis starting to convert over from hydraulic brakes to air brakes. Onceyou get so far into customizing units your business changes creating verystrong relationships, the kind that become like a big family that is spread outall over the world! The trick word “family”starts that relationship of looking out for each other. Once that relationshipis created you become more “protective” in other words, looking out for notonly the customer’s future business but the customer, his business, and hisfamily.
THE “EYE CANDY” Generation II at CCI went from adding a couple of extra bodylights to studying the complete step by step elements of all the differentconditions the end user is exposed to. The #1 most important discovery was working at night in the dark andlearning how important it is for the operator to be well seen and visuallyprotected from oncoming traffic. Generation II at CCI hit the nerve ending tocommit to optional updated extra lighting and lighting designs to help protectthe operator by being seen.
CCI designed a special emergency light bar pylon named “CROSS FIRE”. The “CROSS FIRE” was not overly pricy by any means and CCI sold several thatfitted the Chevron Wrecker body line. What made “CROSS FIRE” so special? The “CROSS FIRE” was one of the very 1st light designed light bar pylons that had Wings Angled Perfectly to shoot sideways across the road way. The“CROSS FIRE” shot backwards lighting up a much wider path than thedistressed unit on the hook so “ALL” Lights could be well displayed; appearing like the Stealth Bomber standing on the ground as you look up at it. What drovethe cost of the "CROSS FIRE" to be more expensive than any conventional pylon was theangled wings. There was a lot of math and craftsmanship to manufacture theLifesaving Attachment. CCI was caught in a kind of price trap during those“CROSS FIRE PYLON” years. The Chevron Wrecker being the most expensivewrecker body with the addition of the "CROSS FIRE PYLON", did limit the number of buyers. The "CROSS FIRE PYLON" was ahead of its time, but not behind the need forSAFTEY FIRST!
As Generation II of “EYE CANDY” with lighting being SAFTEY FIRST! , CCI’s focus was for the highestquality of marker lights, flashers, and relays. Yes, CCI kept focus onthe balance of esthetics with safety and with being seen, so traffic would wantto Move Over because of the placement of CCI’s lighting packages.
Today, nothing has changed about lighting safety for our customers and CCIwill continue to help make life safer on the roadway for Towing Operators. Ourwork preparation for Quality, Design, and Commitment to Excellence still remains true to the Towing and Salvage Industry.
